Meet the Candidates

Town Elections: Saturday, May 17th

Please join us on Sunday, April 27th for an extended (3:45 – 5:30) Sundays @the Barn session to meet the Select Board candidates. We have extended invitations to Charlie Bletzer, John Mahoney (incumbents), Bill Koehan, Deb Iaquinto, Scott Vecchi, and Mark Crociati to come share their beliefs and qualifications.

The intent of the meeting is to provide an informal venue where you can ask questions both in a group as well one-on-one to get better clarity of the candidates positions. In order to ‘prime the pump’ and avoid flowery stump speeches we’re going to ask each candidate to express their views (3-4 minutes/question) on the following topics that have been discussed at prior Sundays @the Barn sessions:

  1. Smart Growth – It’s been a common theme that Plymouth needs to attract commercial growth to diversify its tax base. What is the ratio of residential to commercial base you support and can you offer examples of towns/cities in MA that have achieved this?
  2. Wastewater Treatment – The town is currently considering rerouting 1.75 MGD of effluent from the harbor outfall pipe to Camelot Park. Given the high cost associated with proper tertiary treatment of the effluent, please describe your position on this effort.
  3. Open Space – The town is currently master planning the Holtec property, please provide your opinion on what portion of the property should remain as open space and how that acquisition could be funded. If you envision development on the property, how much and where would that go?

Upon the completion of the structured questions we will open the floor to Q&A.

Please let us know if you if you’ll be joining us
