Zoning Board of Appeals Seat Open

Summer homework assignment – disintermediation case study

We hear that the Zoning Board of Appeals alternate position is currently open with only one candidate submitting their name for consideration… Tom Wallace.

The Select Board is going to re-post; applications are due on July 18th with appointments on July 25. If you or someone you know might be interested in serving as the alternate to the Zoning Board of Appeals, please reach out to the Select Board to submit your name.

The Zoning By-laws provide for certain building requirements, and it is the role of the Board of Appeals to determine whether relief from these regulations is warranted in certain situations. To that end, the Board of Appeals hears and makes decisions on applications for:

  • Alteration or extension of a pre-existing, non-conforming structure or lot
  • Appeals of the decisions of the Building Inspector
  • Comprehensive Permits
  • Special permits for the reconstruction
  • Special Permits
  • Variances from zoning regulations

  1. Hi All,
I am going to throw my hat in the ring. The position requires unbiased and objective review of appeal and compliance. I am a former TMM Precinct 14 and recently appointed to the Cedarville Village Steering Committee. I am not a developer nor have any intentions to do so. I do have property here in the South Plymouth. Both are residential from which my wife and I, daughters and grandkids enjoy. The vision of the Town, its history and mission to develop a new Master Plan along with Village Master Plans are driving my interest to volunteer for the Alternate position on the Board of Zoning Appeals. I am retired from a long career in the Waste Industry. My roots for three generations are in farming, Winegrape growing for which I studied ag economics. I practiced real estate for a number of years mostly representing small urban income property owners . So understanding the challenges facing single family owners to multifamily properties is in my wheelhouse. I believe I can provide the support to the Board as called upon and serve the community with devotion. Don Holm
